ABOUT THE PROJECT

Our project is a public initiative by private individuals, organizations and companies dedicated to the memory of Joseph Beyrle, the only American paratrooper in World War II known to have fought in both the US and Soviet armies against Nazi Germany.

Our celebration and commemoration of the unique story of one soldier provides an opportunity to honor the stories and sacrifices of veterans on all fronts as we celebrate the 65th anniversary of victory in Europe. We also seek to commemorate US-Russian partnership and emphasize the past achievements and future opportunities made possible by this cooperation.

This project has been made possible by the efforts and contributions of numerous individuals and organizations. We would like to thank those who provided financial support as well as time and effort to bring this project to life.

“Jumpin’ Joe” Beyrle: A Hero for Two Nations – a traveling exhibition of over 260 items of Joseph Beyrle’s personal wartime effects, including his uniform, medals, extensive correspondence and photo and video documentation of his life. The exhibition has been organized by the State Russian Museum, Foundation for International Arts and Education (FIAE) and Muskegon County Museums

Seminars: US-Russian relations and cooperation during World War II

The story of Joe Beyrle will serve as a launching pad for a broader examination of the past cooperation between Russia and the United States. Leading historians, representatives of veteran groups, veterans’ relatives and experts in US-Russia relations will meet in St. Petersburg and Moscow to discuss past cooperation between the United States and Russia, the current state of affairs and opportunities for close cooperation in the future. The story of Joseph Beryle, just one small example of the allying of our forces during WWII, highlights this cooperation and provides a unique opportunity to discuss how our two countries can work together for the benefit of all.
